Body Type Without the Baggage
Body type gets a bad rap.
But understanding your body type isnât about fixing your shape. Itâs about embracing your shape, learning what works with your body instead of against it, and realizing that your proportions arenât strange or wrong. In fact, theyâre shared by countless other beautiful women.
When you identify your body type, you begin to notice the lines and silhouettes that are not only beautiful, but comfortable.
When I first learned that I belonged to the Natural body type family, it felt like a weight had been lifted. I had always struggled with my wide shoulders, constantly feeling like a linebacker in tailored clothes (I couldnât find a well-fitting blazer to save my life). Understanding my body type reframed everything. I stopped trying to minimize my frame and started building my style around it. It was deeply validating to realize that so many other beautiful, stylish women shared my proportions. Suddenly, my shoulders werenât a flaw to fix, they were a feature to embrace.
Learning my body type didnât just change how I dressed. It changed how I saw myself. With more clarity, more compassion, and a whole lot more confidence.
And I want the same for you.
Yin-Yang Body Analysis
An intuitive, compassionate approach to body type.
When it comes to body type, Yin-Yang Body Analysis is far and away the most useful way to understand your body type.
This method has been developed and inspired by thinkers like David Kibbe, John Kitchener, Harriet McJimsey, Belle Northrup, and others. You might already know Kibbeâs Image ID system, which uses these same principles.
Understanding Yin and Yang
Yin and Yang represent two opposing yet complementary forces that not only manifest in our physical attributes but also in our personal essence.
Your personal essence is the overall feeling/aura/vibe that others feel when they are around you. Your essence is your character - it consists of your personality in combination with your physical appearance, mannerisms, and way of being.
Physical Yang
long, angular, broad, straight, contrasting, striking, sporty
Essence Yang
strong, formal, fierce, decisive, mysterious, sophisticated
Physical Yin
petite, delicate, rounded, small circular shapes or features, dainty
Essence Yin
bubbly, charming, demure, shy, sweet, radiant
The goal of Yin-Yang Body Analysis is to identify the unique balance of Yin and Yang in both body and essence to determine the overall effect and style lines.
